Cache of Cards by Martin Catalogs and Fliers – With Very Personal Letter

This is a lot of several advertising pieces from Cards by Martin. Cards by Martin was the one man business of the late Neil Lester. Neil was THE man to go to for expertly gimmicked cards. He made all his gimmicks by hand one at a time. Along with a catalog there are also four fliers and a couple of catalog correction sheets. But to add frosting to the cake there is also a personal letter from Neil (“Martin”) to a customer. The letter is dated October 3, 1978 and in the letter Neil tells a sad tale of why he is behind in filling orders. He explains that his fiancé is critically ill with cancer and pneumonia. The majority of the letter is typed. However, there is a hand written section added at the bottom dated October 12, 1978 (nine days later) stating that his fiancé has passed away. A very sad letter and yet Neil is trying to still take care of his customer by filling his order. The hand written part has the signature “Martin” at the end. A fascinating snapshot of history into the life of Neil Lester. Click on any thumbnail to enlarge the photo. $25.00

Professor De La Mano Program

GEDSC DIGITAL CAMERAA vintage program or handbill of magician Professor De La Mano already mounted on linen and ready for framing! Printed on light blue paper by the A.S. Seer’s Engraving and Printing Establishment of New York City. Technically this is actually two copies of the same handbill. The two copies are mounted on a single piece of linen, side by side so that both sides of the handbill can be read. Approximate overall size of linen mounting is 12 x 15 inches. I love the first line of the program, “Has arrived, and will positively appear as advertised.” I wonder if he had a reputation of not showing up?! I’m not sure of the exact date but it is circa 1880’s (tickets were 25 cents!). Click on the thumbnail for an enlarged view of the photo. $25.00
